The $725 Paper Cut

Girlfriendy: I hate the idea of taking a hit on the washer and dryer.

Me: That’s like worrying about a paper cut when you have a gunshot wound.

Yes, this relocation has been, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future, an expensive one. We hemorrhage money, light it on fire, and throw it down the money hole like it’s our job.

The gunshot wound in this case would be the pricey mortgage we are carrying on our condo in Metropolis. It is on the market, but it likely won’t sell anytime soon. We’re in talks with a property management company to start renting it in September.

And the paper cut? That would the aforementioned washer and dryer. When we moved into our current home we purchased them from the previous tenant. They were pretty new (or so she said) and we didn’t feel like going through the trouble of buying ones on our own or heading to the laundromat. We paid $725 for the pair.

Now we’re moving, and the new house already has a nice washer and dryer. The tenant moving into our house expressed some interest at first, but backed out. We posted an ad on Craigslist offering to sell them for less than we bought but the only response we’ve had was someone WHO OBVIOUSLY HAD THEIR CAPS LOCK ON AND A CAT PAW ON THE QUESTION MARK KEY LIKE THIS????????

So what to do, what to do. If no one comes through on CL I guess we’ll take them with us to the new house and keep them in the garage until we sell or donate them out of the goodness of our hearts. We joke about continuing to post them on CL, dropping the price every week so we can watch with morbid fascination just how low we have to go to sell a W+D in this town.
